Terms used:
Browser
A software application that enables you to find and display information from the Internet. The most popular ones are Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Cookie
A small message sent to a web browser by a web server. The message is stored by the browser in a text file called a cookie. Each time the browser requests a page from the server, this message is sent back. A cookie's main objective is to identify users and personalise their visit by customising web pages for them for example by welcoming them by name next time they visit the same sites.
IP (Internet Protocol)
The technical standard which allows data to be transmitted between two devices (computers) on the Internet.
IP address
A unique number consisting of 4 parts separated by dots: for example, 10.0.0.1. Every computer that is on the Internet has a unique IP number. Most computers also have one or more Domain Names (like www.NYBEP.org.uk/) which are easier to remember than IP numbers.
Web Server
A computer that delivers (serves up) web pages to your computer.
Terms and Conditions
Terms and conditions, especially privacy statements, should be clearly visible to all users. If you have any doubts about terms and conditions, seek legal advice.
