Work Based Learning
NYBEP’s Work Based Learning team supports the statutory entitlement of all young people during KS4 to learn about, through and for work.
For 2007/2008 our priorities are:
- meaningful work experience placements, which are safe, well managed and provide valuable learning;
- clear materials to help students identify and develop skills and set personal goals;
- compliance with legal standards and promotion of best practice including the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) Safe Learner standard;
- professional development opportunities for teachers involved in Work Based Learning;
- guidance for employers.
The NYBEP WBL team acts as a ‘one stop shop’ for schools, parents and employers wanting information, guidance and practical support. The contribution of employers providing short or long term work placements is essential in helping young people gain a real understanding of the world of work.
The team has an excellent record in securing external funding via the European Social Fund and LSC to support disaffected young people through structured programmes including college and work placements, life skills and work based qualifications. NYBEP was awarded an ‘outstanding’ rating by the Adult Learning Inspectorate in January 2007 for this area of work, and will seek to develop it further during 2007/2008
