Mentoring
Mentoring is the development of a one to one relationship between an adult and a school student.
The aim of a mentoring relationship is to make a difference to the student by providing encouragement and support from an independent adult, which in turn supports improvements in performance and helps build self confidence and ambition. Schools appreciate and request mentors from all walks of life and so mentors are widely recruited from business, the community, and further and higher education.
All that is required of a mentor is an interest in helping young people, being approachable, reliable and a good listener. NYBEP supports schools by facilitating the application process, asking prospective mentors to complete an application form, provide 2 references and undertake an enhanced CRB (police) check. We then introduce the mentor to a local school who then initiate the relationship and provide ongoing support.
